lineGrip lineScale 3
A revolutionary digital all-in-one bluetooth dyno / load cell. PPE certified, 1280Hz (<1ms) fast, 30kN WLL, and unique onboard-logging of up to 50 hours. The huge load eyes and 90kN breaking strength make it perfectly suited as a generous master point for any type of rigging challenge.
Since Nov. 2023 the new LineScale-3i replaced its predecessor:
The “i” stands for “improved”.
Improved, as in revised and thus better than the predecessor in terms of torsion resistance, and temperature stability.
The LS3i features a few minor refinements, such as:
– solid reverse side (no more inserted plate)
– slightly larger front label (but same OLED)
– less torsion and bending sensitivity
– less temperature sensitivity (almost perfect temp. compensation)
– better IP rating (IP68-0.1m instead of IP67)
(the specs, electronics, OLED display, etc. remain the same)
The LineScale-3 is a crowdfunded project which was launched on Dec. 16th 2020, and fully funded 4 days later. The funders’ investment will pay for hardware- and software development, PPE-Certification, and production of 1000 units.
Development was started on Dec. 30th 2020, and the first retail units are expected to hit the shelves before the end of 2021.

Current status as of Sept. 15th 2021: The prototype is up and running since May and hardware/software have been approved and cleared for production. The first 150 units are being manufactured right now.
Pre-Orders: The first 111 units were sold with 12% discount, and sold out in less than 6 months. The next 100 units sold with 6% discount within another 6 months. These pre-order discounts accounted for the many months ahead payment the buyers trusted us with before they will receive the shipment. From the time of available stock the LS3 will sell for MSRP $885… it’s in stock since June 2022!

Safety is Paramount
This device is milled out of one solid block of high-tensile aviation aluminum (LY12CZ), giving it a whopping 90kN MBS. In terms of safety this is the best deal you can get. Theres no bolts, screws, rings, pistons or joints that could possibly fail… this is the security of mind you need when leaving the scale in the rope access rig while working on it, or in the highline rig while walking it! Independent break testing resulted in a mind blowing 110kN! (see below)
The LineScale-3 is PPE certified to give you peace of mind when your life depends on it. This certification also makes the LS3 suitable for industries such as rope access, height workers, event riggers, arborists, rescue workers, stunt riggers, etc., and PPE professionals of any kind.
Working Principle
The lineScale works by the priciple of material micro deformation: Wikipedia – Strain Gauge
User Configurable
A threshold load value can be set in the Android and iOS app to sound an alarm when reached.
The displayed unit (kg, lb, kN) and the auto power off time can easily be selected and saved as preset by the user.
Unique on-board logging
The lineScale-3 is equipped with an industry unique on-board logging feature which facilitates recording up to 50 hours usage logs to device memory.
These log files can be downloaded later via USB connection to a PC running the included LS-Pro-Log software, or at any time to a USB flash drive by simply plugging it into the LineScale’s Micro-USB master port.
Logging can be adjusted manually through the Log-Menu:
• Onboard memory logging (on/off)
• Overwrite oldest log (on/off)
• Capture scan rate Hz (10, 40, 640, 1280)
• Capture start trigger value (load)
• Capture end trigger value (load)
• Max. capture time length (seconds)
• Pre-trigger recording (on/off)
This unique feature enables you to monitor the loads your rig is subjected to all day long, and later lets you assess if any of the components in your system are seeing alarming loads. All the logs are timestamped so you can even evaluate when, and during which activity these high loads occur.
Note: you can download the onboard logs to flash drive while the LS3 is charging due to the dual USB port!

Graphic OLED display
State of the art electronics demand a good display.
To get all the necessary information displayed on screen and make menu navigation as easy as possible, we chose a graphical display for the LS3. Modern OLED technology (self light emitting pixels) minimizes battery drain by eliminating the battery intensive backlight, and offers the best readability under any light conditions.
A 1.5mm break proof polycarbonate screen protects the display against the harsh conditions it might be faced with.

Versatility
The lineScale 3, with its 90kN MBS, is perfectly suited as a bomber, generously dimensioned, nicely organized anchor master point – also known as “rigging plate” – for your rig.
The large omnidirectional, cross-load proof eyelets are chamfered with a 4mm radius and can easily accommodate 6-8 strands of 10mm rope from your equalizing anchors, which makes multi connector management an ease.

High Accuracy
The 24-bit high definition AD-converter with dual strain gauge configuration has a resolution of 1kg with a measuring error of less than ±0.25% (inside the “sweet spot” area of 300kg – 1500kg / 3kN – 15kN, which is 10-50% of WLL.
A measuring error of max. ±0.75% is guaranteed for the whole working load spread of 0 – 30 kN.
Necessity for recalibration is not to be expected for many years if the LS3 is not regularly used at over 20kN. If you max out the WLL to 30kN once in a while you may encounter a “zero shift” (LS3 does not show 0.00 at power up). This is a minor issue though because you can recalibrate absolute zero by the push of a button in the service menu at any time when there’s no load on the unit.

Bluetooth Connectivity
An integrated Bluetooth BLE 5.0/4.2 (low energy) interface connects the lineScale to your smartphone for configuration, and load value reading and recording.
Apps for iOS and Android devices are included with the lineScale.
The Bluetooth module is certified for RF regulations: BQB BLE 4.2/5.0, EN CE ETSI RED, FCC, IC(Canada); FCC ID: 2ADXE-HY-40R204PC.

Power Management
The powerful 1350mAh Li-Ion battery pack gives the lineScale-3 an endurance of up to 30 hours continuous operation (ca. 20h with Bluetooth enabled and in “fast” scan mode).
If no load change is registered for the preset shutoff interval, the device will auto power off. It was essential for us to assure, that the scale does NOT calibrate its sensors to 0 when powered on, but immediately shows the current load. This enables you to power off and on manually anytime when you need a load reading. This makes your scale go for weeks without having to recharge.
If power does run low, you may recharge at any time during operation (e.g. with a powerbank).
The LS3 is equipped with a “display off” function, which blanks the OLED display after a user defined time to extend battery life to the max. while the LineScale is running all jobs in the background. Onboard logging, Bluetooth connections, etc. are not interrupted and you can check the display anytime by the press of any button.
Note: you can download the onboard logs to flash drive while the LS3 is charging due to the dual USB port!

Scan Rate
The max. sensor scan rate (cycle rate) is a whopping 1280Hz, meaning the lineScale reads and calculates the sensor load every 0.8ms, which makes it sensitive enough to capture almost any peak loads. The second, slower scan rate is 640Hz and is used to reduce the data rate of the USB connection or save space in on-board log memory.
Due to speed limitations of the Bluetooth interface the above rates can’t be used for BT connection to smartphones. BT fast mode is therefore 40Hz (25ms). To save battery power you may toggle the lineScale to “slow” scan rate (10Hz / 100ms) which is sufficient for simple load tension monitoring for rigging.
Any of these scan rates can be used for onboard logging!

SAFETY!
The true unibody manufacturing, milled from one solid block of high strain aluminum alloy, gives the LS3 a generous 14:1 (!) safety factor for PPE applications.
The PPE certification process demands annual full production auditing in the factory to ensure manufacturing is and remains PPE compliant.
US based Ryan Jenks from How NOT 2 break tested the lineScale-3 early 2023.
The result: a whopping 145kN breaking strength… that’s 14 tons!!!
